Principals of ten seminaries met in an urgent session with MKs of Yahadut Hatorah. The elected officials wish to understand the ramifications of the proposed budget cuts to chareidi mosdos.
Ladaat explains that one Yahadut Hatorah official explains seminaries that certified young women as teachers not only received money from the Ministry of Education, but benefited from coalition funding. With the chareidi party in opposition, those funds will be lost in addition to the cuts in state funding from the annual budget. Treasury officials explain that from their perspective, the seminaries certify 18,000 teachers annually when in fact; there is only a need for 2,500.
The principals explain that many believe the gezeiros are aimed at the talmidei torah and at avreichim but in reality, the seminaries will be hit hard as well.

“like DUH!”
It would be illogical for the hilonim to attack only Torah education for the boys. If your goal is to undermine yiddishkeit, you have to attack women’s schools as well. That is also why they are begining to talk openly of conscripting women.
The hilonim may be evil, but they aren’t stupid.
These chareidi mosdos should reduce or eliminate their dependence on politically-based funding and avoid these constant crises as the political winds change. If the article is even remotely correct, they are churning out nearly 5-8x as many teachers as the market requires. Perhaps if they focused on educating their students for those professions that are highly in demand by the Israeli economy (technology, health services etc)they would not have these budgetary shortfalls and wouldn’t require constant infusions of public funds. Otherwise, the public schools in EY are offering the required training and they should be seriously considered as an alternative for those who want the education necessary to pursue a career after graduation.
Why cant we in America, be like the Israelis who never have to get a working job ?
Yira,
Because we’re not crazy.
It is time the frum people wake up and vote and move. Cut the number of yeshivas in Israel and increase them outside of Israel; and than lets so how will the economy does in Israel. The press and the leftist have no idea how much money comes into israel’s treasury from the THE “CHAREDI PARASITEs”. Housing, food, cloths, travel, electricity, cars,
air conditioners, appliances, fruits and vegetables; all because of the big charedi community. Please they bring family on vacation to come to Israel. Touring by the frum is a big thing. Also frum people on a whole spend vacations in Eretz Yisrael and not Bulgaria or Turkey. The left need a punch in the stomach to have a strike by the frum community to show them our power
Yira, you should thank Hashem you live in a medina shel chessed rather than under the chiloni Zionists who are the biggest anti-semites in the world.
You must serve at least 3 years in the immoral anti Torah army before you can get a job in Israel, unless you’re too old for military.
Why should a seminary graduate 8000 girls for teaching positions when not even 2000 will get employment? AND this is where government monies are going.
In America the majority of frum graduates are enrolling in therapy programs, health oriented jobs, nursing, bookkeeping, techo careers…why waste money on a dead ended job option?
#3 to “no yira” they dont insist on an extravagant lifestyle, you do. they are fine taking mass transit EVERYEWHERE, you are not!
Is anyone hearing echoes of the discussion between Miriam and her father Amram, when she compared him to Pharaoh?
Yitzchoky, you’ve got it right. Chareidim should leave Eretz Yisroel and move instead to where frumkeit is nurtured and treasured. I’m talking Lakewood, Monsey, Five Towns, KJ. Why stay in a medina that you don’t recognize or support and openly despise?

Jews were in EY prior to the state and have to stay if and as they wish

Jews were in EY prior to the state and have the right to stay if and as they wish
Many people here have stated (foolishly) that E”Y would be so much better off without a State.
#5- Do you really believe everything you described would be possible under foreign rule? If you do, you have a lot of history to read up on.
I love all your comments but nobody mentioned from where will come the bread on the tabel if you move to a other country. For the moment in choutz laaretz we can hardly daven more then 30 or 40 words without being interrupted in middle of Pesouke Dezimre by Yisroel Yieden collecting money, how will it look like if we follow your suggestions,
Sad. No one is really stopping these mosdos from doing all they have been doing. In fact, all the avreichim can continue learning as well. The government is just not going to foot the bill as significantly as before. I think the US goverment does not support avreichim or kollelim and somehow they make it work. Although the national service issue is a tricky issue, the real question that needs to be asked is: What sacrifices are worth making to live in Eretz Yisroel? Living in Chu”l is also a sacrafice by the very fact you live in chu”l. For some reason, last Shabbos the word “nidachim” stuck out in bentchen hachodesh. People in chu”l are cast off/rejected from Hashem’s land. Despite the anti-religious tones in the governement in E”Y, they plan to raise stipends for the best avreichim and qualify that as national service. There is some good in that…
