Israel’s Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit has completed his deliberations with regards to police recommendations to indict the Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. The news was broken by Channel 13 News on Thursday evening, Israel time.
The preliminary indictments will be announced in the coming weeks ahead of the elections according to the report. The report stats that Netanyahu is likely to be charged with fraud, breach of public trust and bribery in conjunction with cases 1,000, 2,000 and 4,000.
Netanyahu has previously denied the allegations against him and maintains that the entire thing is politically driven to oust him from office.
Mandelblit is supposed to hold a series of meetings with state prosecutors in the coming weeks before any final decision is given. The Attorney General is supposed to notify Netanyahu’s attorneys in the coming week that he will not accept the request submitted by the Prime Minister to defer the decision regarding the indictments until after the election.
Prime Minister Netanyahu responded to the news on Thursday night.
“It appears that the Attorney General has caved to the pressure of the media and the left-wing political parties and decided to issue a letter of indictment against the Prime Minister at any cost – and will do so prior to the elections,” said a spokesperson for Netanyahu.
Netanyahu’s attorneys have filed a number of requests that the Attorney General interview some 60 critical witnesses who were not interviewed yet with regards to any of the cases brought against Netanyahu during the investigations by the police. Netanyahu’s attorney’s requested that the witnessed be interviewed prior to the Mandelblit’s decision. The same day it was made known that the office of the Mandelblit has no intention to interview these witnesses.
