Rav Meir Eliyahu, who is considered among the leading magidei shiurim in the Mosiyuf Shul in Yerushalayim spoke out strongly against the heads of schools, talmidei torah, and seminaries, who discriminate against sephardi girls or girls and boys from homes of baalei teshuvah.

Rav Eliyahu is known for his vast knowledge of Torah and Halacha and has penned seforim on Halacha and Shas. His knowledge is undisputed, and he is also a well-known figure and darshan in the Mosiyuf Shul. In a weekly parsha shiur the rav spoke out strongly against the heads of mosdos who discriminate.

“There are unfortunate children with no where to be, as you conduct selection. Where is the Yiras Shomayim from Kudsha B’rich Hu?” stated Rav Eliyahu. “There are those who do not have a yeshiva because they were not accepted, and what is with these children? They get involved in bad culture, the shabavnikim. The unfortunate girls remain at home as there is no school that will accept them”.

The rav added, “There is a certain sephardi who knows he was once a baal teshuva, and he opened a seminar for girls, 80% ashkenazi and 20% sephardi but you are sephardi! You are a baal teshuva! How can you too conduct selection of sephardim and ashkenazim instead of affirmative action?”

“Don’t you have any Yiras Shomayim from HKBH? Aren’t you afraid? How did Rav Yehuda Fataya say, telling ashkenazim Yerushalmim ‘don’t underestimate the Sephardim because you will become Sephardim in your gilgul. And who knows today if all the Sephardim suffering from this discrimination if you yourself were not an ashkenazi in a previous gilgul who was discriminating. This is how it works”.

The rav added that Rav Fataya stated he himself was a gilgul of the Nodah B’Yehuda, among the major ashkenazi poskim who was not the friendliest towards Kabala and his gilgul was not only a leading Kabbalist, but a sephardi no less”.
