Israel’s Shai (Shomron-Yehuda) district police on Thursday, January 24, 2019, announced the investigation into a murder in PA (Palestinian Authority) controlled Tulkarem led to the filing of criminal indictments on Wednesday, against two people suspected in the murder of a Palestinian money changer. Police report the murder occurred on November 15, 2018, which appeared to be a robbery that went sour.
Police learned the suspects studied the victim, and they planned to rob him at a time he was to be carrying a large sum in cash. They arrived at the victim’s home, and they tried to rob him while he was inside his car, to grab a suitcase he had with him, a suitcase containing NIS 300,000 in cash. He fought with the robbers and was injured, later being pronounced dead in a Tulkarem hospital.
The perpetrators fled the scene while leaving the case with the cash on the scene.
A significant amount of evidence was gathered from the crime scene, police report. The suspects include Israeli Arabs, with one from Taibeh and the second from the Kfar Kassam.
The hearing on Thursday during which the indictments were read, took place in the Petach Tikvah Magistrate’s Court.
