According to an Israel TV News report, thieves have chosen to use the nation’s leading second-hand website, Yad2, to target unsuspecting individuals selling items including a used diamond ring and an electric wheelchair.
The thieves send forged bank transfers, explaining the transaction will only appear the following day. In one case, the victim called the bank and it was confirmed, that the transaction may not appear for another day. However, in these cases, there is no money, and nothing will ever appear.
One buyer traced it back to a post office in East Jerusalem, and they immediately exhibited familiarity with the name of the thief, of course, not his real name. When asked to send a copy of his teudat zehut identity card, the thief complied as well, sending what was learned to be a forged card.
When the taxi with PA (Palestinian Authority) license plates arrived to pick up the items, the sellers were not at the least bit suspicious, since they had a copy of the bank transfer in hand.
Police have opened an investigation.
