IDF officials announced on Sunday, January 20, 2019, that criminal indictments were being handled down against soldiers suspected of beating two Palestinians in custody, resulting in significant injury to the prisoners, who were blindfolded and their hands tied when they were assaulted.
The soldiers were ordered held without bail pending the outcome of the trial. The charges include aggravated assault, causing severe injury under aggravated circumstances, and some of them also face charges of suspicion to disrupt the interrogation.
In addition, a commander of the soldiers, a lieutenant, was also arrested and a hearing in his case was set to take place later on Sunday.
