Olmert Seeking to Avoid Meeting Peanut Man, But Will Meet Other Israeli Officials

carter-arafat1.jpgFormer US President and Nobel Prize laureate Jimmy Carter will be arriving in Israel on Sunday, planning to meet with Palestinian Authority officials to discuss ongoing regional peace efforts.

According to a Yediot Achronot report, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s staff has been contacted to arrange a meeting but the prime minister is not particularly interested in meeting the former president.

Carter will be meeting with President Shimon Peres, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Yisrael Beitenu Party leader Avigdor Lieberman. He will also be meeting with opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu, and Ministers Eli Yishai and Ami Ayalon.

Carter’s views comparing apartheid in S. Africa with Israel in his latest book are well known and he has never been known as a friend of Israel, rather he is a staunch supporter of Israel’s enemies.

It appears he may be trying to do an image make-over, planning a solidarity visit to Sderot during his stay in Israel.

In a somewhat related matter, Israel recently rejected an offer from the senior citizens club, Jimmy Carter, Desmond Tuto, Kofi Anan and Mary Robinson, the former president of Ireland – seeking to act as intermediaries between Jerusalem and Ramallah.

Danny Gellerman, Israel’s former UN Ambassador, who was involved in rejecting the request mentioned above, describes Carter as “two-faced, an anti-Semite and anti-Israel,” Yediot reported.

  1. wow – olmert is actually doing something right.

the good people of Sderot should protest his visit there. signs saying that “peanutboy supports those that bomb us” would be appropriate

  2. I’ve always been a fan of Dan Gillerman. When did he become “former” ambassador to the UN? As far as I can tell he still serves at that post.

  3. Hopefully he’ll get hit by a kassam rocket. What is Eli Yishai doing meeting him. Thought he had somewhat higher standards then the rest of those menuvallim.

  4. I must once again raise my voice in protest on behalf of all the good peanut farmers who do not wish to be associated with this shady character.

On behalf of the peanut farming industry, I state loudly and clearly: Carter is not one of us (anymore)!

  6. to justify your name “yeshiva” and your supposed loyalty to “daas torah” could you please ask a “gadol” if you can reffer to a past president in such a fashion ? this is hefkairus and you are putting jews in danger .60 years of freedom doesnt wipe out 2000 years of golus

  7. Americancitizen, you are missing the point, pal. If you consider yourself an American citizen, then I suggest you take a look at the constitution and discover the article of Freedom of speech. We have a right to express our feelings and opinions in this country providing it does not endanger anyone. Why can’t we dislike a former president? Why don’t we have a right to express ourselves? Are we living in Iran or China ?
