IDF Golani Brigade Staff-Sergeant Sayef Bissan, 21, of the Druse Galil community of Jat, fell in the line of duty during the pre-dawn hours on Wednesday, April 9th.

A member of the elite Sayeret Egoz reconnaissance unit, Sayef went to high school in his village. He already began preparing himself for service in an elite combat unit in ninth grade, described as a model student.

Prior to his death, Sayef stated, “We are a people who believe in fate” regarding the Druse community. He regarded Major Ro’i Klein HY”D as an example. Klein jumped on a hand grenade during the Second Lebanon War while reciting Shema, saving the lives of his soldiers around him.

The village of Jat is home to about 900 people, reporting about 99% of eligible youth serve in the IDF.

His uncle Karim explained “He died in a battle to protect our home. His death was not in vain. 38 years ago, I was a member in the Nachal group in Kfar Aza, where I had an adopted family, and now, we close a circle as he fell protecting my home. As members of the Druse community we are compelled to fulfill our responsibilities to the state.”
