IAF Escorts Small Plane in Distress; Landed Safely at IAF Base

Shortly after 1:00PM on Sunday, a level 2 emergency was declared at Ben-Gurion Airport as a Beechcraft light plane reported an emergency. The plane, which lost one engine, was diverted to land in the Haifa Airport.

According to an Israel Airports Authority update, the plane was then diverted again to an Israel Air Force base in northern Israel. According to the IDF Spokesman’s Office statement, “An American-registered aircraft made its way from Larnaca to Jordan, and as it reached Israel’s airspace, reported an engine failure. The plane was accompanied by Israeli Air Force planes” where it touched down without incident.
