A platoon commander and soldiers were arrested by military police on suspicion of using unauthorized violence against Palestinians.
According to a report by the IDF Spokesperson, IDF Military Police arrested an officer serving as a platoon commander in the Nachal Chareidi Battalion along with four soldiers in the battalion on suspicion of striking two Palestinians in custody at some time in the past.
According to the report, the officer and the arrested soldiers, who belong to the Netzach Yehuda Battalion, a unit in the Nachal Chareidi Brigade, are expected to be brought to the military court on Thursday, January 10, 2019 to discuss the request to extend their remand.
The incident took place shortly after the battalion was involved in another scene: Netzach Yehuda soldiers refused to evacuate settlers in the Beit El area who demonstrated against the recent wave of terror, even though they were ordered to evacuate them. Border police detained soldiers in that incident.
The soldiers, whose members of the battalion Yosef Cohen HY”D and Yuval Mor Yosef HY”D were murdered only a week earlier in the attack at Givat Assaf Junction, were severely beaten by Border Police officers in response to their refusal, creating another affair under investigation.
