Baruch Dayan HaEmmes: The Chief Rabbi of Herzliya and founder of Yeshivas Nachlas Binyamin, HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Yechiel Yakabovich ZT”L was niftar suddenly in his home on Wednesday morning. The rav was the elder of the chief rabbis serving in cities throughout the country, serving in the post for over sixty years.

HaGaon Rav Yakabovich was born in Germany to HaGaon HaRav Chaim Yosef Yakabovich ZT”L, who served as a Ram in Yeshivas Frankfurt. In 5695, the family moved to Eretz Yisrael, to Yerushalayim. His father was a founder of Yeshivas Kol Torah and he learned in Ponevezh. He married Rebitzen Shprintza Movshovich, daughter of Rav Binyamin Movshovich ZT”L, Chief Rabbi of Herzliya and founder of Yeshivas Hasharon. After getting married, he joined the faculty of the yeshiva alongside HaGaon Rav Yaakov Edelstein ZT”L. after the petira of Rav Movshovich, in 5713, he assumed the role of Chief Rabbi of Herzliya.

In the past decade his son, HaGaon Rav Daniel, established Yeshivas Nachlat Binyamin in Modi’in Illit under the leadership of the Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Edelstein, in memory of Rabbi Binyamin Movshovich.

The levaya began at 11:00AM from the Beit Knesset HaGadol in Herzliya, and at 3:00PM, the levaya continued at Shamgar in Yerushalayim and kvura was in Har Menuchos.
