(VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

Veteran PA (Palestinian Authority) official and chief negotiator, Dr. Saeb Erekat is interviewed by Tim Sebastian, of Conflict Zone, who reveals the hypocrisy of the PA (Palestinian Authority) and Erekat, pointing out the failures and widespread corruption that exists in the PA today.

After being shoved into the corner by Sebastian, who showed how he as the chief negotiator, as well as other PA negotiators, have refused any and every offer made to the PA including this and previous administration.

Sebastian points out that a recent survey in the PA shows 62% of the people are calling on PA Chairman Abu Mazen to reign, and 67% are unsatisfied and three-quarters of the PA residents feel the conditions are worse than before the Oslo Agreements.

Sebastian speaks of the “Massive corruption” in the PA, including nepotism, and that the poll revealed over 80% of residents feel the corruption in the PA is widespread.

Sebastian quotes Human Rights Watch reports that quote “credible reports” of massive abuses by PA Security Forces, which in a two-year period probed 147 incidents and found the widespread human rights violations, not to mention the PA is cracking down on freedom of speech.

Erekat explains “we make mistakes”, adding “In some cases I am ashamed – I promise democracy and transparency” when there is a Palestinian state.

Conflict Zone is Deutsche Welle’s top political interview. Every week, hosts Tim Sebastian and Michel Friedman are face-to-face with global decision-makers, seeking straight answers to straight questions, putting the spotlight on controversial issues and calling the powerful to account.
