Coalition chairman MK (Likud) David Amsellem is working hard to advance a new draft bill, and to have it passed into law by the Knesset before the High Court of Justice’s 15 January 2019 deadline arrives, even if this means doing so without the participation of the chareidi lawmakers.
Aware of the controversy that exists among the chareidi parties and the current version of the bill, Amsellem announced that the discussion towards advancing the bill set for Tuesday, 17 Teves, will take place regardless of the participation of the chareidim, who appear to be planning to boycott the discussion.
The representative of Yahadut Hatorah on the committee, MK Uri Maklev of the Degel Hatorah faction, is quoted telling Kikar Shabbos News that the decision to boycott the meeting was made after learning Amsellem has decided the current version is final, and he is unwilling to entertain any change.
