Former Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, who is in Washington, called on American administration officials, “to impose sanctions against companies that boycott Judea and Samaria.
Barkat held an information campaign in the United States last week in order to encourage the American administration to act against companies boycotting the settlement in Judea and Samaria, due to Airbnb’s decision to surrender to Palestinian pressure and to remove the housing units in Judea and Samaria from its site. Barkat met in the White House with President Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, Jason Greenblatt, and discussed with him the regional challenges of Israel and ways to combat the BDS phenomenon and the boycott of Israel and settlement in Judea and Samaria.
Barkat thanked Greenblatt and President Trump for their support of Israel and for the historic decision to transfer the American Embassy to Jerusalem.
Barkat also held a series of meetings with senior members of Congress, including Kevin McCarthy, the Republican House majority leader who is close to President Trump.
Barkat asked McCarthy to examine possible legislation to impose sanctions on American companies that boycott Israel and settle in Judea and Samaria.
“A company that boycotts us should know that you will pay a heavy price for it. Sanctions should be promoted against those who submit to the pressure of Israel’s enemies who are motivated by hatred of Jews.
McCarthy expressed his firm opposition to Airbnb’s decision and promised to examine various options that would lead to a change in the decision.
Barkat thanked McCarthy for all his work for Israel and invited him to visit Israel this summer.
