It was announced on Tuesday, that a third terror tunnel from Southern Lebanon into Northern Israel was revealed as the IDF’s Operation Northern Shield continues, an operation intended to detect and destroy cross-border terror tunnels.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Wednesday morning, 4 Teves, met with visiting Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini. In the meeting in the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem, Mr. Netanyahu called on UNIFIL to “do more” to prevent Hezbollah from taking such actions against Israel.
PM Netanyahu said, I want to welcome Mr. Salvini here. He has been a great friend of Israel. You had the opportunity to see the terror tunnels yourself directly. This is a clear act of aggression of Hezbollah against us and against the norms of the international community. You have a commander in UNIFIL, an Italian commander. We think UNIFIL has to do a stronger job, tougher job, but ultimately, it’s the responsibility of the international community. They should stop Hezbollah from taking these acts of aggression against Israel.”
At the start of Northern Shield, the IDF uncovered a 200-meter tunnel and others have been uncovered since. Mr. Netanyahu has indicated this operation will continue for as long as necessary, indicating it is likely to continue for a number of weeks.
