As part of the police preparations for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) Day, with the latter defined as a terrorist organization, Jerusalem police arrested twelve suspects on suspicion of nationalistic offences. The police spokesperson’s report explains PFLP Day is sometimes accompanied by disturbance and illegal marches, as participants express solidarity with the terrorist organization.
On Tuesday night, police and Border Police officers in East Jerusalem made arrests in an effort to prevent disturbances motivated by nationalism against civilians and security forces, as well as the prevention of other offenses. In a covert operation, three suspects were arrested when they threw stones at vehicles and buses near Hebrew University Mt. Scopus campus.
In addition, the police arrested a 23-year-old suspect at his home after he was charged with throwing a Molotov cocktail at a police team in East Jerusalem a week ago. The arrest of the suspects was extended to the court until Friday.
Police also arrested eight suspects identified with the PFLP to avoid incitement and other related illegal activities in a preemptive move to avoid violence.
