With the new administration in place in Bnei Brak, under the leadership of Mayor Avraham Rubinstein, the city is making the removal of illegal structures on public land a major priority in the new administration. This refers to shuls located in ‘green’ areas, public areas designated for park space for the city residents.
One of these illegal structures is Beis Knesses Darchei Shmuel located in the Kiryat Herzog area of Bnei Brak, which is affiliated with Peleg Yerushalmi, and while the Peleg insists the city is discriminating because of the shul’s affiliation, Bnei Brak City Hall insists this is not so. City officials point out that another shul, which is affiliated with Belz, is also among those being removed.
The city engineering department on Wednesday morning released an official announcement, informing relevant parties the structure is situated on a ‘green’ area and will be removed. The city insists it is not and will not discriminate as no one situated illegally on a green area will be permitted to remain regardless of affiliation.
