Israel Police on Sunday released an announcement reiterating Israeli citizens are forbidden from entering PA (Palestinian Authority) autonomous areas, known under their Oslo Agreement designation as “Areas A”. An area “A” is under total PA control, while area “B” is under PA civil and Israeli security control, with police explaining one may enter and area “B”, but this carries significant risk with it. Areas “C” are the areas throughout Yehuda and Shomron in which Israeli reside and are permitted entry.
Over the weekend, there were two cases in which Israelis entered areas “A”, both in the Kalkilye district. In the first case there was a robbery as a result and in the second case, a vehicle was stolen.
Police explain many Israelis enter PA areas to shop as it is less expensive, as well as taking their cars for service or maintenance in PA areas. Some visit cafes as well. Often, such visits lead to attacks, robberies, and threats, police explain. Police admit that “miraculously”, the Israelis are generally rescued by security personnel, and they escape unharmed, but one should not take the risk.
Police are emphasizing the warning regarding areas “B” and highlighting the prohibition regarding entry to areas “A”.
