Former Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman on motzei Shabbos appeared on Channel 2 TV’s Meet the Press program, commenting on Operation Northern Shield, the ongoing IDF operation to detect and destroy Hezbollah terror tunnels from Southern Lebanon to Northern Israel.
Lieberman explained the ongoing operation was “not a military operation” but “engineering”, adding, this was not an excuse for the government’s lack of action against Hamas. Lieberman insists both could have been launched, even simultaneously, citing the situation in Gaza remains more of a priority than what is taking place along the northern border.
The former senior minister added he does not regret his decision to resign, and insists that Israel’s decision to permit Qatar to send over $30 million to the Hamas regime in recent months is a “surrender to Hamas”, nothing less.
Minister of Housing (Kulanu) Yoav Gallant, a former IDF Deputy Chief of Staff, spoke out against Lieberman, defending the ongoing operation, which he says is necessary. Galant explained that Lieberman’s knowledge regarding the military is limited, defending the operation.
IDF and government officials on motzei Shabbos announced a second terrorist tunnel was discovered, and the operation is going to continue.
