Due to the announcement by Shas party chairman Minister Aryeh Deri that in the coming days, he will announce who will fill the second deputy slot in Yerushalayim, Pini Ezra on Sunday morning surprised all, submitting his resignation from the city council”.
Ezra informed Deri of his decision on Sunday morning, 1 Teves, stating he has decided not to serve another term.
It is explained that Deri is expected to announce that the second deputy slot on the party’s city level would be Chaim Cohen, who would then split the post in the new term with Avraham Betzalel. As a result of disagreement regarding positions on the party’s local level, it appears Ezra has decided to call it quits.
Ezra wrote in his letter, “After three years in the Jerusalem City Council, I have decided to resign my post on the [Jerusalem city] council and not to continue for another term, but rather to focus on my private business.
“I thank the Shas party and Minister Aryeh Deri for their trust and the rare opportunity given to me to serve the tzibur and I wish the Shas party much hatzlacha in the upcoming term”.
The slot is expected to be filled by Tzvika Assulin.
