Olmert Summoned to Give a Statement in Pollard Investigation

pollard.jpgState Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss has contacted the Prime Minister’s Office, wishing to interview Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, to hear first-hand what actions he has taken towards obtaining the release of Jonathan Pollard, who has already served over 22 years in a US prison for passing classified information to Israel.

Officials in the PM’s Office have not yet responded to the request, apparently uncertain if the prime minister will decide to comply with the request.

The Knesset Audit Committee has called on the state comptroller to investigate what the current and previous administrations have done towards obtaining Pollard’s release. The state comptroller’s findings will remain confidential as per the mandate of the ongoing investigation.

NOTE: A FELLOW JEW WORKING TO SECURE THE RELEASE OF JONOTHAN POLLARD WROTE THE FOLLOWING TO YWN:

Jonathan Pollard is in his 23rd year in prison. We must work harder than ever to gain his freedom. Three actions we can take are: 1. Call the White House every business day between 11 AM and 2 PM at (202) 456-1414 with a message for the President to commute Jonathan Pollard’s sentence to time served. 2. Davin and recite tehillim for (Yehonoson ben Malka) Jonathan Pollard’s immediate release and 3. Register and send an automated e-mail to the White House once a month by clicking here: http://www.jewishnewssite.org/index.php?act=51&lid=1.

Jonathan Pollard, in the course of his position as a civilian Naval intelligence analyst, discovered that the US was withholding information that Israel was entitled to which was crucial to Israel’s security. Among the information that Jonathan Pollard gave Israel was information about Iraq’s nuclear reactor. Israel later used that information to bomb the reactor, a move that helped the entire free world.

Generally a person convicted of spying for a friendly country receives a 2-4 year sentence. Never in the history of our country did a person convicted of passing classified information receive a sentence as harsh as Jonathan Pollard. Something went terribly wrong in Jonathan Pollard’s case. He has been in prison for over 22 years and neither the US government nor the Israeli government can be proud of how they handled the matter. For Israel’s part it turned Jonathan Pollard over to the FBI and handed over the evidence against him on a silver platter.

  1. i only have one question & what did this Jerk Olmert do, to obtain the freedom of his own people who where captured while the where trying to secure the safety of its own people & they risked thier lives & got cought & yes this creep went to war because of thier capture & yet he has done nothing to gain thier freedom.

Of course i am talkng about the Two soldiers who are being held in lebanon & the one being held by The Palestinians, sorry i only remember the names of two of them, Goldwasser & Gilad Shalit

But they are all very busy about what the USA should do for Israel, besides giving them Billions of dollers & Military equipment, they would also like to dictate American policy,
Let him take care of his own citizens first.

  2. Pollard will not even see pischey shel Gehenim. In Hashem’s eyes the man is a complete Tzadik for his act of bravery and we all should be mispallel for him.

  3. whats with “dina d’emalchusa” after all he spyed for his country ,,,,so why u saying he wont see a pischa shel gehnom,,, there is a din that we r mechuav to do pidyon shevouyim ,how ever a person knowigly spied against his country and knowingly knew the consequances ,so why make such a big deal..do u know how many himisha yidden sit in prisons for lesser crimes and no one gives a hood…why rnt u misspalel for them as well …

  4. afrimeryid – whats with “dina d’emalchusa” – 1)according to the treaty we were required to give us those dox & 2)no DM”D w/o a malchus.

knowigly spied against his country He spied 4 his country and then she turned ‘er back on him.

knowingly knew How can one knowingly know?!

why make such a big deal..Pidyon Shevuyim is a מצוה רבה – we may even sell a Torah scroll!

do u know how many himisha yidden sit in prisons for lesser crimes and no one gives a hood…. There is no = – R’ Pollard risked his life for his country – HE simply stole millions from the IRS.

  5. 3- Rebbetzin, כבוד קדשך, I understand that U have mastered Kabbalah, Machshavah, and Rishonim & Acharonim, but who appointed U a prophetess?

  6. To afrimeryid:
Why can’t you actually read the story, before you make your ridiculous, uncalled for comment.

“Generally a person convicted of spying for a friendly country receives a 2-4 year sentence. 7. You are quite ignorant. 1)Hatzolas Nefashus overrides dina malchusa dina even for one person and especially for multitudes of Yidden. 2)As to why make such a bid deal? Are you normal? This man saved Eretz Yisroel from devestating attacks. It was only after his revelation that senior Bush supplied Israel with batteries of Patriot Missles. Every yid in Klal Yisroel owes Pollard great hakaras hatov. The least we could do is be mispallel for him. 3)Did I say you should not be mispalell for other yidden in jail? Of course we should, as we should be mispalell for all yidden. But don’t deny that this Pollard did something very great on behalf of Klal Yisroel for which every jew me and you included owe him hakaras hatov.

  8. To: Bavli Tipshai—- 1)As to your question who appointed me prophetess, please remember the maxim of Chazal which you obviously are not aware of: “CHACHAM ADIF MINOVEY” 2)If you want me to explain to you in detail why he will bypass Gehenim I will be glad to do so.
