The London-based Arabic language Al-Quds newspaper reports Syrian military forces are conducting large scale maneuvers, quoting unnamed sources that Syria fears a major strike against Damascus by Israel. There are reports of the Syrian military calling up reserve duty forces.
Tensions have been high along Israel’s northern border since the car bomb attack that claimed the life of senior Hizbullah terrorist Imad Mughniyeh, fearing a major revenge attack. Soldiers are also on alert against attempts to abduct troops from the border, prompting the heightened alert status.
