Thief Nabbed In The Act On Shabbos While Stealing From A Jerusalem Yeshiva Dorm

For some time, in Jerusalem’s Yeshivas Maor HaTorah, items have been disappearing from the dormitory, including sums of cash and valuables, stolen weekly from the yeshiva which is home to some 500 talmidim. It appears the thefts have been going on for a month of more.

On Friday night at about 6:00PM, during seudas Shabbos, one of the bochrim left the dinning hall to get something from the dorm. He entered a saw a number of thieves in the act, who he believed were former bochrim from the yeshiva. Two of them fled, while the third did not manage to get out. He ran towards the roof and injured his leg and was apprehended as talmidim were looking for the others.

Someone outside who is not frum saw what was taking place and realized something was going on, deciding to phone police. One of the two who fled threw a bottle of cologne, cellphones and cash on the steps of the yeshiva as he ran.

They filed an official complaint with one policeman, a non-Jew and the one thief in custody was taken to the Russian Compound station, where he insisted, he did not steal anything.

The talmidim later told Kikar Shabbos News that further investigation shows that the former talmidim were not the thieves as they first believed, and it is hoped police will continue probing the matter so as to apprehend the thieves.
