There was real drama in the Haifa bay area, particularly at the underground passage on Chalutzei HaTasiya Street due to the major rainfall in a short period of time. One transportation driver was caught in the midst of it as the water level rose quickly and the driver was trapped in the vehicle during the predawn hours on Sunday morning.
Fire rescue under the command of Ilan Zinger was first on the scene and determined the driver’s situation, quickly assessing little time remained to save him. With a lifeline tied around a rescuer, he began swimming towards the trapped vehicle. When he got there, the two of them got onto the vehicle’s roof and they were rescued shortly thereafter. Rescuers then probed the area to determine if anyone else might be in the rapidly-rising water.
The photos and accompanying videos give a picture of the situation and just how much water there was as the emergency raft headed to the vehicle to rescue the driver from its roof.
