Israel: Disconnect Law Approved by Knesset

In what is being billed a major consumer victory, the new Disconnect Law has been approved, stating companies may not charge consumers three days after receiving notification of a desire to cease services. This applies primarily to cable and satellite television providers, ISPs, gyms, and many other services notorious for compelling subscribers to make endless phone calls in an attempt to reach someone to arrange a cessation of services.

The law also compels companies upon signing new subscribers to provide disconnect phone numbers, fax numbers and email addresses, to facilitate the process for those wishing to terminate service.

Companies failing to comply will face up to a $10,000 fine.
