Beit Shemesh Mayor Bloch: Don’t Come To Ceremony If You’re Unvaccinated Against Measles

Newly elected Beit Shemesh Mayor Dr. Aliza Bloch announced ahead of the City Hall ceremony in which she assumed her post from outgoing mayor Rabbi Moshe Abutbul that anyone who has not been vaccinated against measles should not attend. She explained the reason is that children with the illness were in the room adjacent to where the ceremony was held.

Many members of the press were among the visitors planning to attend the Thursday morning ceremony, but for some, the unvaccinated, plans changed. A notice was also circulated that anyone who was in City Hall on Tuesday, 12 Kislev, should get vaccinated if they are not already since persons with measles were in the building. It was added the alert was announced after consulting with Jerusalem District Health Ministry officials.

As is the case in frum areas in the Greater NY region, the measles continues to spread in Israel and Bnei Brak’s Mayanei HaYeshua Hospital recently announced restrictions against children entering the hospital, referring to visitors, not patients.

  1. Very smart idea but difficult t enforce. She should be commended for working aggressively to both educate her constituents on the critical need for vaccination and to “shame” the askanim, roshei yeshivos and other political leaders who fail to support her efforts or openly defy the directives to “stay away” from any public venue or event if you don’t vaccinate yourself and/or your kids.

  2. Its very hard to enforce, I made a simcha and tried, first of all you need to make 2 clear octags one for the mens side and one at the ladies thanking for coming and wishing and then put your rules, then you still need luck they will listen, After asking not to come, if a miscarriage or stillbirth or death lo aleinu occurs (or in case of rubella a birth defect) from a person who did not listen to your request, they probably need to do explaining in Shamaim.
