Bayit Yehudi chairman Minister Naftali Bennet explains that he asked Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to become Defense Minister of Israel for one reason, “so Israel can once again be victorious”, adding he left the high-tech world and decided to enter politics after the Second Lebanon War, where he was a commander in Sayeret Matkal, and he is confident as Defense Minister, he can bring a victory and restore the nation’s deterrence.

He spoke of his role in the cabinet during Operation Protective Edge, which began during the summer of 2014, and how his voice and warnings as a member of the Security Cabinet led to actions that were overdo against Hamas’ terrorist tunnel infrastructure, fighting for weeks until the government accepted his position, albeit late, but in time to prevent the “Yom Kippur Attack”, referring to what was supposed to be a mass slaughter on Rosh Hashanah.

However, PM Netanyahu already told Bennet he would not give the post to him. Bennet has since called for early elections, after it became clear to him once again that he will not serve as the nation’s Defense Minister for as long as the government is headed by PM Netanyahu. Bennet tried to become Defense Minister when coalition talks were underway following elections, and when it became clear to him that he would not receive the post, he accepted the post of Minister of Education, which he holds today.
