The demand of Minister of Education Naftali Bennet to receive the defense portfolio led MK Yehuda Glick to sharply attack the conduct of the party and its leader.
In a tweet he published, Glick called the Bayit Yehudi a “fringe party ” and said it was an “opportunistic leader’s party.”
“When the only issue that justifies the threat of toppling a government is the defense portfolio for Bennet, you understand that Bayit Yehudi is not the national religious party that is interested in fundamental issues of religion and nationality, but also an opportunistic party of the leader just like there are parties like Kahlon, Lapid, Lieberman, there is also the Bennet party.”
Lieberman’s resignation as defense minister put the political system into a shock that is expected to lead to the dissolution of the Knesset and elections. Bayit Yehudi recognized the potential of the resignation and gave Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu an ultimatum that if the defense portfolio does not pass to Bennet, the party will leave the government and lead the State of Israel to elections.
On Wednesday night, a meeting was held by Bayit Yehudi, in which it was decided that the party would not continue to be a member of the Netanyahu government without the defense portfolio. The faction announced that Bennett was the authorized party to conduct negotiations on behalf of the faction.
