Volunteer Cop Fired for Ticketing Minister’s Vehicle

Volunteer Israel Policeman Avidan Kalfa made the news, unfortunately not in the way he would have wished. He was dismissed as a volunteer policeman after issuing a traffic violation to the driver of Finance Minister Roni Bar-On.

The minister’s driver passed him while sitting in traffic, driving on the shoulder of the road. He pursued the ministerial vehicle, which pulled over, and promptly issued the driver a summons.

Technically, he was dismissed for leaking the story to veteran newsman Moshe Nussbaum, not for issuing the summons to the senior minister’s driver.
