Police Conclude Netanyahu Corruption Investigation – Waiting For AG To Decide on Indictment

Israel Police has announced that after approximately 2.5 years of investigations, it has completed all the cases into alleged criminal activities involving Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the files have been handed to Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, who must now render a decision in each of the cases, deciding if the state will move ahead with criminal indictments. According to the Chadashot News report, Mandelblit has announced a decision in the cases will be forthcoming in the first quarter of 2019.

The cases are referred to as 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000, handled by the Israel Police Lahav 433 Major Crimes Unit. If the attorney general acts in line with police recommendations, indictments will be filed against Mr. Netanyahu in two of the cases, 1000 and 2000.

There are already calls among the opposition, demanding the Prime Minister step down in light of police recommendations. Others state if indictments are filed, he must step down, while supporters insist he is not required to step down even if indicted. They explain he must step down if and when there is a conviction. They point to indictments against others, including Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who was under investigation in several cases for about 13 years, resulting in the state closing all of the cases against him, without indictments.
