The head of the regional council, Gadi Yarkoni, admitted to the media that a family is leaving Kibbutz Kerem Shalom due to the difficult security situation in the area. As far as it is known, it is the first family leaving since March 30, 2018, due to the situation in border communities, which are being targeted daily with incendiary kites and balloons fired from Gaza.
If the incendiary bombs were not enough, the residents of the kibbutz are also compelled to inhale the acrid smoke resulting from Gazans burning tires along the border fence. At times, the Gaza terrorists are as close as 100 meters from Kibbutz Kerem Shalom homes.
In an interview with Mendy Rizel and Avichai Zano on Radio 101.5FM, Yarkoni was asked whether the rumor of leaving Kerem Shalom was true and replied: “Yes, yes, one family is leaving, 13 came, one really did not succeed. It’s very normal, and it’s okay that a family came to try and did not succeed in living here in the Gaza vicinity, and not everyone can live here.”
