As Israel continues to agree to what appears to be never-ending good-will gestures to the Palestinian Authority, Defense Minister Ehud Barak has given his approval to the deployment of 600 PA policemen in Jenin, stressing Israel will maintain overall security control of the PA autonomous area.
Barak admitted the move somewhat compromises Israel’s security interests, but calls it a calculated risk towards advancing peace negotiations with the PA.
According to a ynet report, the PA also called for the deployment of security forces in Chevron, a request that was turned down by Barak.
