Opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu during a Tuesday tour of the area called for renewed construction in E1, the area connecting Jerusalem to Maale Adumim.
The opposition leader approved a master plan when he was prime minister, a plan that was since abandoned by Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert, the result of tenacious American opposition.
Netanyahu stated that the State of Israel was not built with the support of the international community, but “despite its opposition,” adding the present policy will result in an “Arab noose” around Israel. His plan calls for creating Israeli land contiguity between the French Hill area of the capital and the city of Maale Adumim.
American officials remain adamantly opposed to such a move.
