A Jerusalem police spokesman on Wednesday, 1 Marcheshvan, announced that the investigation into a fire in a Beit Shemesh shul during Sukkos has led to the arrests of three suspects.
A fire was reported in a shul in Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel. The fire department and police responded. Damage was caused to the entrance of the shul. Police probed the scene for evidence. It was determined the blaze was likely the result of arson and the fire was started near the door. The three suspects taken into custody are all minors. They were arrested on Monday, 29 Tishrei.
The suspects were questioned by police, in the presence of their parents. They were released with restrictions after questioning.
Police stress “This is a complex investigation, during which we operated on a variety of levels and investigative activities in order to reach the suspects’ identity and bring them to trial. Unfortunately, it may have been a prank that caused property damage to the shul and could have caused serious damage.”
