ACHDUS: Chareidi Candidate For Jerusalem Mayor Surprises Counterpart With Birthday Wish on Social Media

The Charedi candidate for the Mayor of Jerusalem, Yossi Deutsch, surprised one of his competitors, Moshe Leon, by wishing him well on his birthday on Sunday. Deutsch posted a photo of the two of them standing together on his official Twitter account along with the birthday wishes.

“Moshe, debate or no debate, whether we campaign against one another or not, you know that I love you. Mazal Tov on your birthday, we will celebrate it together a bit late, after the elections are over, you will most certainly understand me for doing so.”

Leon responded very energetically to Deutsch and Tweeted, “Thank you my good friend Yossi, I am waiting with bated breath to work together with you after the elections are over in partnership and friendship. After all, our love for Jerusalem will win out.”

On Saturday night, the candidates for the Mayoral race in Jerusalem participated in a televised debate at the end of which Deutsch said: “I believe in a clean campaign, I believe that you need to show your positive side and not the negative side of the other candidates. I invite my fellow candidates to have a positive campaign.”

Deutsch is the only politician from Agudas Yisroel who has a dedicated social media page. Deutsch opened his twitter page just two weeks ago and since then has garnered more than 840 followers. Leon, who has had his page open for a while only has 545 followers, where as Minister Zeev Elkin has more than 11,000 and candidate Ofer Berkovitz has 1,632.

  2. Nebech…there is no such thing as achdus with reshoyim. According to most of the Harry’s out there reading this, achdus is apparently doicheh the whole Torah and machlokes is worse than giving honor to reshoyim and kofrim.
