Degel HaTorah and Shas have joined forces in the municipal election in Ashdod according to an announcement made by the Degel Hatorah faction on Sunday afternoon. The announcement followed the representatives of the municipal branch of the national party meeting with Rav Chaim Kanievsky to obtain his blessing for the decision.

The Rabbi who heads the Degel camp in the city, Rabbi Bonim Schreiber, sent a letter out to his congregants, some 500 families, to vote for the Shas faction in the upcoming municipal elections. At the head of the Shas faction in the city sits Deputy Mayor Avi Amsalem.

Just hours after the letter was issued, Amsalem and the Askan for the Degel Camp Yechiel Tzuker entered the home of Rabbi Kanievsky in order to receive the sage’s blessing.
