Members of the Peleg Yerushalmi faction held a large event outside the Beersheba prison where Shlomo Zalman Weissfish, Yehuda Leib Zilberberg and Mendel Tep are serving prison terms for their part in an assault against Kiryat Gat Chief Rabbi Moshe Havlin Shlita.

The event was held on Hoshana Raba.

They were protesting Rav Havlin’s role in signing an agreement with IDF officials pertaining to Chabad bochrim and military service, blaming him for the increased drafting of chareidim into the military. The attack against the rav and his wife occurred about two years ago. Peleg officials report they have been imprisoned for about four months, and they were not released for the Yomim Nora’im, Sukkos or Simchas Torah. Hundreds took part in the chizuk event.

An Ashkelon court convicted a number of persons involved in attacks against rav Havlin, with most receiving community service, but some were imprisoned.
