Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai has filed a petition with the High Court of Justice, seeking an order compelling continued work on the Yehudit Bridge on Shabbos. With the chareidi parties opposed to the Chilul Shabbos, the matter led to a special Knesset session.
In his statement to the media, Huldai said, “… We have now filed a petition to the High Court of Justice to continue construction work on the Yehudit Bridge on Shabbos.
“The petition includes a request for an interim injunction suspending the decision of Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz and obliging Ayalon Highway Authority to continue construction work on the bridge, even on Shabbos, as planned, until the High Court of Justice renders it decision.
“The construction of the bridge is part of our policy to strengthen the urban fabric, connect the different parts of the city, and encourage walking and cycling as a daily riding tool.
“The Transportation Minister’s decision to stop the work on Shabbos was made for narrow political reasons and without authority…”
The pedestrian bridge will serve bicyclists, connecting between Yigal Alon Street and the neighborhood of Bitzran, east of the Ayalon, and Montefiore neighborhood west of the Ayalon.

This Rosho is calling Shmiras Shabbos in the Jewish State: “narrow political reasons and without authority…” Where is the outcry from Natanyahu and other religious and even secular politicians who are insisting in the national law of a Jewish State?!
