While municipal elections are less than a month away, that did not prevent Yehoshua (Shuki) Deutsch, 25, to become the youngest chareidi councilmen representing Degel Hatorah. He is being appointed to the Telshe Stone Council ahead of elections, holding the eighth slot on the ballot of nine. He is the youngest chareidi representative serving in a council in Israel today.
In a last-minute move, an agreement was reached in Telshe Stone by which veteran town leader Avraham Rosenthal will continue for the coming ten months, after which, he will turn over the reins to Yitzchak Ravitz, who will serve until that time as the deputy head of the council.
As a result of the agreement, elections will most likely not be held in Telshe Stone as opposition representative Dov Bakshet is not expected to run.
Deutsch attended Rashi Yeshiva and is a talmid of HaGaon Rav Chaikel Miletzki. He was married over a year ago, and will serve as the community’s representative of the young families as per instruction from his rebbe, Rav Miletzki.
