The White House issued a statement on Thursday stating that President Donald Trump will meet with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu during the United Nations Conference scheduled for next week in New York. Netanyahu is one of the numerous foreign leaders that Trump is scheduled to meet with.
Framing the background of the meeting are the current tensions between Russia and Israel following the downing of a Russian plane in Syria. The Syrians fired a barrage of missile at the Israeli Air Force, some of which destroyed the Russian Jet.
Another topic of discussion is the series of steps that the United States government has recently taken against the Palestinians. Two weeks ago the U.S. notified the P.A. that they would be closing the Consulate in Washington. The State Department has said that they have exhausted efforts to create a lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Even after putting forth intense efforts, the Palestinian leadership did not take steps forward to renew negotiations with Israel.
