Sikrikim on Sunday, 7 Tishrei, protested in the area of Kikar Shabbos after learning the yeshiva bochur arrested on erev Rosh Hashanah was not released. The arrest was made at Ben-Gurion Airport, as the person, who thought he was heading to Uman, came up on the computer as being AWOL from the IDF.
The sikrikim understood he was going to be released on Sunday evening, and when this did not occur, they took to the streets, blocking vehicular traffic.
Police at the airport took 18-year-old Shalom Aharon Eliyahu Roth into custody during the predawn hours on erev Yom Tov as he tried clearing border control to head to his flight. He was taken to the Tel Hashomer base and he was brought before a military judge and sentenced to 20 days in jail. At this point, it does not appear that he will be released for Yom Kippur and there is no indication as to what will be done for Sukkos.
