Hundreds of chareidim, including the Primishlan Chassidim, demonstrated on Shabbos against the continued Chilul Shabbos surrounding the light rail project in Bnei Brak.
Now, the municipality of Bnei Brak is embarking on a public struggle against the ongoing Chilul Shabbos. Rav of the city, HaGaon HaRav Moshe Yehuda Leib Landau, in a drasha in the city’s Beit Knesset HaGadol, expressed his pain and protest over the Chilul Shabbos involving the light rail project, particularly in Bnei Brak, adding that the Chilul Shabbos in Bnei Brak is a special kind of “Chilul Shabbos befarhesya’”.
The rav went on and he addressed his words to the new owners of the Danya Cebus Company, a Shomer Shabbos Jew, and said that many wealthy persons who were mechalel Shabbos in Tel Aviv paid a high price, and there are many examples and that one way or another, they have the ability to stop this, no matter how difficult it may be, calling on the owner(s) in the name of the Torah City, and to remember the brachos received for those who observe and protect the Shabbos.
The Bnei Brak Municipality published a statement on motzei Saturday that is expected to be published in Sunday’s chareidi newspapers a statement that is has raised the issue of the struggle against the Chilul Shabbos, taking on the battle on a higher level. The city announces it is taking the battle against Chilul Shabbos to a new level, involving the city and its resources, determined to halt work on the light rail in the Torah city on Shabbos. The proclamation is signed by the mayor and his deputy mayors.
