Members of Agudas Yisroel in Bnei Brak are planning a large-scale protest in an effort to stop, once and for all, the desecration of Shabbos and Yomim Tovim in their city by the contractors building the light-rail system.
The committee for the protection of Shabbos together with local community leaders and Rabbonim from across the city, will meet with the Moetzes Gedolei Yisroel for an urgent meeting in order to get their approval to hold the mass-protest. The hope is that the protest will take place opposite where the construction is going on near the neighborhood of Kiryat Herzog. The protest would be pending the acquiescence of the contracting company N.E.T.A to the demands of the groups canceling all work for the coming Shabbos and Yom Kippur.
In addition to the city, Rabbi Yitzchak Goldknofef is conducting negotiations with N.E.T.A in order to get them to cease construction on Shabbos. Should the negotiations fail and the agreement of the Council be obtained, it is expected that tens of thousands of protestors will descend upon the construction site.
