Due to the recent sharp escalation in incitement against Interior Minister Aryeh Deri, increased security has been ordered for the cabinet minister.
Last week, during a protest by residents of southern Tel Aviv, a picture of Deri was set ablaze in anger, as the residents decried the continued presence of illegal aliens in the area, whom the residents claim have overrun their neighborhood, which is now crime-ridden as a result. The actions by demonstrators were met with widespread condemnation from the political echelon and security officials.
The Interior Ministry’s Security Officer filed an official complaint with police on erev Shabbos in light of the events, which police are taking most seriously. As such, the decision was made by ministry security officials to step-up security for Deri until further notice.
