Charedi Soldiers Complain of Salaries Too Low to Live On

Chareidi soldiers who enlisted in the IDF four months ago are complaining that the salary stipend which they receive for their service is simply too low to live on.

Some 120 Chareidi soldiers enlisted into the IDF just after Lag Ba’Omer. They were divided up among the cyber security division, the navy, the technology and development department and land-based divisions.

Before the soldiers move on to their specifically earmarked brigades, they first undergo a tailor made course to bring them up to speed on their education so that they will be able to perform the tasks required of them. During that time, they fall under the auspices of the Department for the Integration of the Ultra-Orthodox.

BeChadrei Charedim reported receiving letters from the family members of these soldiers, in which the families described how even married soldiers who have children are receiving a salary that remains the base salary for a regular soldier who just enlisted.

  1. This is a problem in Israel, and almost anywhere else. That is why countries have often used conscription, since otherwise they would have pay the soldiers a decent wage. If Israel were paying its soldiers a respectable wage (as they do for soldiers in the “Sherut keva”, the non-conscript part of the military), they would have so many volunteers they would not to draft hareidim, or anyone else.

  2. Nowecant, great idea/ they can join with Peleg and live in even deeper poverty, as they will be smooching off society. They’ll have no training or education for careers.

  3. “……follow daas Torah ….”
    Whose DT? Yours??

    “…….don’t enroll with these atheists….”
Of course not… Let the “atheists” , for example, endanger their lives and flush out murderous terrorists in Palestinian villages, confiscate ammo and gather vital info, risking their life & limb so that your Das Torah’niks can live and laugh…

  4. ZionGate, once and for all, enough with the foolish propaganda. We all know that only about one in five soldiers (approx. 20%) “endanger their lives and flush out murderous terrorists in Palestinian villages,” etc. on a regular basis. The rest are jobniks. Try to come up with a better objection; this one has outlived its usefulness. Are the jobniks living and laughing at the combat soldiers?

  5. Da’as Torah such as all the Gedolim who say…don’t go to the army. The army doesn’t need the charedim. Before anyone argue, I speak from experience. I did my time not long ago, but I had to wait while they found me a job because they had no openings. I wanted to do interesting stuff like Intelligence or mechanics, but after 8 Months of them searchibg for a job, I got stuck as an extra in a warehouse. All this just to en sure they got one more Chareidi in the army, no matter what it cost them.

Peleg Yerushalmi go against Da’as Torah and create a chilul Hashem, we don’t have to be like them. If one follow the Gedolim and registered but refused to serve, they wouldn’t have the problems the peleg idiots have. Proof: All the demonstrations are because of their idiots getting arrested, we don’t seem to have that problem.

Yes the chiloni should be the ones to go out and risk their lives, unless they want to do what God told them to do and start learning and keeping the mitzvos. Their choice!

  6. The article is about money, economics and nothing else. The idea of drafting soldiers is so you don’t have to pay them. It has nothing to do with religion. The reason country’s conscript people, is since it is cheap. The soldiers who are complaining do not seem to understand this.
