WATCH: Bnei Brak Municipality Ousts Special Ed Children From School Building


People were outraged on Wednesday in Bnei Brak, when word spread that the city had ousted the Ohel Sara School of special children from their building. The parents explain the city is not abiding by a court ruling, and during the afternoon, they took the children out onto the street, distributing ices so that leave without a fuss.

Municipal inspectors arrived, got the children out of the building and then locked it up. Simultaneously, a large crane arrived on the site to assist in removing items from the structure.

Bnei Brak City Hall decided two schools belonging to the Ohel Sara NGO, used for special children, will move to a new building on Kishon Street after the building there were using on Abuchatzera street will be given to a litvish talmid torah.

The building on Abuchatzera Street in in the Pardes Katz neighborhood, which is divided for the Beit Chinuch School which has boys to the age of 13 and the Beit Shai School, which has boys ages 13-21, both affiliated with Ohel Sara.

However, Mayor Chanoch Zeibert decided to move the two schools to a new venue, but the parents insist the new building can only accommodate ten classrooms, and there is no way they can place all of the special needs children there as well.

A court on Wednesday, 18 Elul, ruled against Bnei Brak City Hall, ordering Beit Shai to remain in the old building and Beit Chinuch will move to the new location.

On Thursday, the city took unilateral action, which parents insist is defiant of the court decision, sending the city inspectors to expel the children. Parents are now weighing their next step.
