Meretz Leader Questions Labor’s Role in Govt

Just a few hours after being elected the Meretz Party leader, MK Chaim Oron told Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) that he does not understand the Labor Party’s role in the current Kadima-led coalition government.

Oron stated that Labor does not appear to have any influence, and the party seems to be carried along by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s policies, policies that he believes negate the Labor platform and electorate.

Calling Oron to congratulate him on his election victory on Tuesday night, Labor leader Defense Minister Ehud Barak called on Oron to join Labor in the ruling coalition, but Oron told Army Radio he does not see why Labor remains since the current national government policies are not in sync with their agenda.
