After the price rises, the crembo fans will have to deal with another change. According to the Ynet report, Unilever’s ice cream company plans to sell the crembo without a cover. Despite the dramatic change, no layoffs are expected following the move, and will be integrated into other production lines at the ice cream factory.
The subject of the crembo cover often came up in the headlines mainly because the company’s employees do it manually because of the fragility of the popular product.
The first phase of the change will begin in the next few days when the eight packs that come in a hard plastic case will be sold without the cover. At a later stage, when a solution is found to preserve the delicate crembo, 20 and 30 units that are currently sold in cardboard boxes will also be sold
The company estimates that it will save more than 13 tons of aluminum a year – 6,000 square kilometers of wrappers, which, if combined, can be reached from Jerusalem to India, “making sure that the texture, taste and shelf life of the crembo remain the same.”
Recently, Ynet reported that Unilever decided to raise the crembo price by 7.5%.
The hike, at 8 agorot per unit, is expected in September, ahead of the winter candy season. The increase will be reflected in packages 20 and 32 units, while the price of eight-unit package remains unchanged.
