On Sunday, YWN-Israel reported a talmid yeshiva that was stabbed and R”L seriously wounded by a friend. The talmid was transported in serious condition, and his friend, another talmid, fled, but was later apprehended by police. The incident occurred at the entrance to Yeshivas Knesset HaGedolah in Kiryat Sefer.
The Rosh Yeshiva, HaGaon Rav Yitzchak Ze’ev Zacks, convened his talmidim for a discussion following the despicable event.
Rav Zacks said, “A regrettable incident happened here, and we must treat this personally, and also publicly, because it was done in public.
“Just as it was with the עגלה ערופה (Egla Arufa), that ‘our hands did not shed this blood’, it was not our own fault, but we must atone for it.
“In order to correct, two things must be done. To declare a day of fasting tomorrow, and to study the laws of בין אדם לחברו, between man and his friend, until Rosh Hashanah.”
Later on, the Rosh Yeshiva explained that everything should be continued as usual, in parallel to the ways of fixing what had happened. He added: “There is a wedding tonight and we have to go to the wedding as usual.”
At the end of the schmooze, the talmidim davened Mincha, and were “Mekabel Taanis” as per the order by the Rosh Yeshiva.
As YWN had reported, on Sunday afternoon, around noon, it was learned that a talmid had been wounded in the chest. EMS arrived at the scene found the young man had been stabbed, and after being treated in an ambulance, he was evacuated to Tel Hashomer Hospital.
The yeshiva calls on the tzibur to be mispallel for the victim, Yedidya ben Michal.
As for the other talmid, the attacker, his remand has been extended for four days by the Jerusalem Magistrate Court on Monday. Attorney Ben Maoz insisted there was no argument between the two before the stabbing, and his client denies the allegations leveled against him. He is being charged with attempted murder. The court has ordered a psychiatric evaluation of the suspect as well, as his attorney told the court he has a previous mental history.
Additional details reveal the suspect took a knife belonging to the yeshiva, apparently from the kitchen, and stabbed the friend. He did not flee the as was reported, his attorney explained, but he remained and was arrested at the yeshiva.
“At the moment he is in a difficult mental state,” his attorney repeatedly emphasized before the judges, and even explained the fact that he is silent in his police investigations.
The young man who was stabbed, has since improved somewhat and is now listed in moderate condition Baruch Hashem, as he was stabbed several times in the stomach and chest.

it is a real shame, but I have noticed over the many years that the quality of what is a yeshiva man has gone down considerably in the past 50 years.
Once a yeshiva man was a erlich mentch, today we can note some boys and men who are lower and lower in ethical behaviour.
A real shame but the yeshivas must deal with it and work hard to bring them up to mentchlichkeit….

What about how the chinuch these days from parents have vastly detoriated, as has the derech Eretz of the dor as a whole…

There is no heter for your post whether it’s true or not. Don’t believe me – ask a Rav. You can hear a daily shmiras halashon shiur at that same number, ext. 1. I don’t know what you have in the USA but you probably have something comparable.
This sad story, which is what generated your unfortunate comment, is no example of yeshiva men’s behavior. The poor kid suffered from pychosis and had an attack. And when he gets it back under control, he’ll feel like he’s done for after having acted the way he had, stabbing a friend. He won’t be able to show his face again in yeshiva. My guess is that the victim will recover faster than the attacker. Even if we can’t allow psychotic people go around stabbing others, have a little pity in your heart for a suffering Yid and thank Hashem for your mental health. It’s a gift from Him.
This story is erroneous. The stabber was not a “friend” or a regular Talmid. He has serious mental issues and has been in mental institutions, such as the one that he is currently incarcerated in. Obviously, no one knew that he represented a Sakanah, but let us please not view this as “Yeshivah Bachur gets mad at friend and stabs him”.
