Amid concerns that a yeshiva bochur who flies to Uman for Rosh Hashanah, may jeopardize his status with the IDF, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gadi Eizenkott has announced Bochrim may travel up to ten days.
According to a Kikar Shabbos report, responding to a request from Interior Minister (Shas) Aryeh Deri, Eizenkott has given the green light for bochrim to visit the tziyun of Rav Nachman of Breslov for as long as the visit does not exceed ten days.
This is contingent however on following instructions, which include showing one’s plane ticket ahead of time to the “Bnei Yeshivos Unit” in the IDF, informing the military of one’s status prior to leaving the country – thereby avoiding complications following one’s return.
It is explained that this year in particular, with Rosh Hashanah beginning on Sunday night, many bochrim will arrive on the Wednesday or Thursday before, since tickets for erev Shabbos and erev Rosh Hashanah are considerably more expensive. In addition, return flights immediately after Yomtov are also more expensive, hence the need for ten days.
